Welcome

Here you will find a collection of my current coding and accessibility projects, my blog, media appearances, some samples of my music, and below is my LinkedIn profile and a sample of my past animation work before I lost my vision. Enjoy!

This site and sub-sites have been coded entirely by hand up to WCAG 2.2 AA standards, or as close as I could make it as a blind developer. Everything is keyboard and screen reader navigable and is fully HTML 5 validated.

Project and Page Updates

Be a Better Tester

I attended the ATNYC 2025 conference in New York and gave a presentation on how to write better accessibility tickets when submitting feedback on apps and websites. Instead of creating a slide deck, I built a webpage to hold all of the information that I went over in my 30-minute talk, and I also just find that webpages are easier to navigate than any of the slide deck software that is out there.

Braille Converter

When adding braille text to SVG artwork, using Unicode characters is the best way to have braille act like actual text, allowing us to use it on paths, apply different CSS effects, etc. The problem was actually getting those Unicode characters in the first place.

Originally, I was painstakingly pulling them up one at a time from the MacOS Character Palette, then eventually built my own little text file to contain the braille Unicode characters that I could copy and paste out of, though that was still quite a chore. Now I've found a script that will convert BRF files to the exact Unicode I need, and I translated it and recompiled it for anyone to use! Check this out:

A Walk Through Amsterdam

June 1, 2025 - Chancey Fleet and I took a walk through Amsterdam a day before attending the Tactile Reading Conference, and I recorded our walk with my Meta glasses. I edited everything together, added captions, and this fun 6 minute jaunt is the result!

Web Accessibility Resource Link List

I gave a presentation for the Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Books library tech list patrons about my journey into Web Accessibility, and created a link list for all the resources that I have used to build up my knowledge over the years. Educational resources, WCAG references, coding workshops and courses, organizations and companies, automated tools, and much more!

TADA!

Tangible Art & Design Adventures, or TADA, is a curriculum for TVIs to use to teach blind and low-vision students tactile drawing techniques, coding fundamentals, with the aim of guiding them towards building their own tactile and visual graphics using SVG code. I worked with the Northwest Center for Assistive Technology Training at the Washington School for the Blind on this project, writing the Advanced activities, helping with the Beginner tactile drawing curriculum, recorded demonstration videos, presented at the APH Coding Symposium 2023, and built the website that hosts the full curriculum.

BlindSVG.com

I constructed this site to teach blind and low-vision creatives how to code their own digital illustrations and graphics using SVG code. While the primary goal is to output tactile graphics, SVG can be used for any graphical application, allowing folks to make logos, art, layouts and wireframes, circuit schematics, architecture drafting, and so much more!

Graphic Design is not just for sighted people anymore! And all it takes is a text editor, some syntax, spatial reasoning, and imagination.
